Our History
Since opening our doors in 1960, Tom's Drive In has been a local favorite for classic, made-to-order meals served with a smile. What started as a single drive-in has grown into a beloved Wisconsin tradition, known for our juicy burgers, smooth shakes, and commitment to quality. Our passion is simple: to serve great food, fast, and treat every guest like family. Over the decades, we've stayed true to our roots—delivering hometown flavor with every bite.

July 27, 1960 When It All Began
In 1960, with President Eisenhower in office and “The Twist” topping the charts, Tom and Corinne Grishaber borrowed $26,000 to open their first Drive-In across from Telulah Park in Appleton, Wisconsin. Serving 15¢ burgers, crispy fries, and 20¢ shakes, Tom’s quickly became a Fox Valley favorite.
As more locations opened, one thing never changed—our commitment to community. From sponsoring local sports teams to supporting school fundraisers, giving back became part of who we are. Over the decades, expansion continued, but so did our dedication to Wisconsin families.
Today Still Local. Still Family.
Generations of Grishabers have remained proudly family-owned, working alongside multiple generations of local families inside our restaurants. Through fundraisers, events, and partnerships with hundreds of schools, teams, and nonprofits, we’ve built lasting connections that strengthen our communities.
Now, more than 65 years later, Tom’s Drive-In is still family owned, community focused, and serving as a gathering place for generations of Wisconsin families.
