Our History
Since opening our doors in 1960, Tom's Drive In has been a local favorite for classic, made-to-order meals served with a smile. What started as a single drive-in has grown into a beloved Wisconsin tradition, known for our juicy burgers, smooth shakes, and commitment to quality. Our passion is simple: to serve great food, fast, and treat every guest like family. Over the decades, we've stayed true to our roots—delivering hometown flavor with every bite.

July 27, 1960 When It All Began
In 1960, with President Eisenhower in office and “The Twist” topping the charts, Tom and Corinne Grishaber borrowed $26,000 to open the very first Tom’s Drive-In across from Telulah Park in Appleton, Wisconsin. Serving 15¢ burgers, crispy fries, and 20¢ shakes, Tom’s quickly became a Fox Valley favorite.
As new locations opened, one thing never changed—our commitment to the communities we serve. From sponsoring local sports teams to supporting school fundraisers, giving back became part of who we are. While Tom’s continued to grow, our focus on Wisconsin families remained at the heart of everything we did.
Today Still Local. Still Family.
More than 65 years later, Tom’s Drive-In remains proudly family-owned, with generations of Grishabers working alongside multiple generations of local families inside our restaurants. Through fundraisers, events, and partnerships with hundreds of schools, teams, and nonprofits, we’ve built lasting connections that strengthen our communities.
Today, Tom’s Drive-In is still community-focused, still family-run, and still a place where Wisconsin families come together—just like they have for decades.
